Every Scout Group forms a parent committee, known as a Group Committee, to assist the Group Leader provide the resources needed by the Section Leaders to run effective and safe programs and are just as important to a group as the Leaders and the Youth members.
Without a Committee a group does not exist irrespective of how many Leaders and Youth members it has.
Members of the Group Committee are appointed by the Group Leader to serve for twelve months, although they are eligible for re-appointment. Members of the Group Committee are principally drawn from parents of youth members, and may also include former Scouts or others interested in the Group. The Group Leader is the only leader on the Group Committee.
There are many positions on the committee to fill and below is a few Common ones and their role
President
The duties of the President are to take the chair at all meeting of the Committee and to lead the
Committee in its general function of assisting the Group Leader.
Secretary
The duties of the Secretary are to call the meetings of the Group Committee, to draw up an agenda for
each meeting, to keep minutes of each meeting and to distribute copies, to receive and answer
correspondence at the direction of the Committee.
Treasurer
The duties of the Treasurer are to keep a true and proper record of the finances of the Group and to
present a financial statement at each meeting of the Committee.
Hall Hire
Manages the hall hire bookings
Communication Officer
Manages the communication channels for the Scout Group i.e. newsletters, emails, website etc…
Fundraising Officer
Manages all the fundraising activities for the Group and manages the fundraising roster.
Maintenance Officer
Manages the maintenance of the Scout Hall and helps the Committee prepare for any future replacements.
MEMBERSHIP OF THE SCOUT ASSOCIATION
All members of Group Committees are members of the Association and, as such, are bound by the rules
and policies of the Association. This applies to all the activities of the Group Committee and its
members when acting in the name of, or on behalf of, the Association.
